One day I’ll have something very cool and important to put here (like “bestselling author of x, y, z…), but for now I’ll start by sharing less impressive things. I write, of course, but I play video games way more often. I read, but I prefer non-fiction. My favorite hobby is crying in the car. I guess I do like politics, just a little bit. And, I’m excited to announce, I am slowly–slowly–learning Spanish. I’ve got the basics down in DuoLingo so I’m feeling pretty good about myself. Yo soy la leche, bebo hombre.
When my mother asked me why I want to write, a voice in my head answered before my mouth could: Because I have to. Most of the time I feel like I’m stumbling through life haplessly, hopelessly. Writing and politics–they help keep me grounded, help me find ways to give my life meaning. I guess that’s what brought me here.
but a dream
You may be wondering what’s up with the motel, or why my blog name might make you think of infants. Actually, the name is a reference to an old forum username I had as a teen. I wrote a pretty popular fanfiction there, had my 15 minutes of fame, and now every so often lapse into anguished nostalgia for a better, simpler time.
The motel has a sadder meaning. I don’t know if you’re familar with Meg Myers or her song Motel, but it is one hell of a tune. I felt a deep connection with it the moment I heard it and it has become the sobering epitome of how I feel about my life currently. Plus, I mean, that was a really cool picture.
I hope you’re able to find something enjoyable in what I write, and I look forward to learning much from the wonderful writing community here.
