I have the gift of Sight.
Even a gentle brush with cosmic aether allows me to Gaze deep into the Heavens. During these trances, I have witnessed phenomena beyond imagination. In the Outer World exists forces more beautiful and destructive than anything found on Astraeus or within any of its vast planes.
To chart the Heavens is my calling. To use its power for good is my duty. This is my ephemeris, my life’s work.
When I created Yao Yu for the Astraeus series, I knew I was going to need to find a way to turn things like black holes, quasars, and supernova explosions into science and magic that made sense in a vaguely medieval fantasy world. Yao Yu’s Ephemeris reads half like a fieldwork journal and half like a spellbook, documenting the discoveries he’s made using the Sight and exploring how the phenomena of the Heavens can be recreated with magic.
This is only the beginning. I plan to add more entries and details to this little project over time and write stories based on Yao Yu’s observations, discoveries, and wild spell idea (or “strategic combat solutions” as he might call them).
